A message from your hiking guide and instructor Alfred:

The Dachstein and I are old friends because that’s where I spent some of the happiest times of my childhood. At the age of four, my mother, an avid hiker, made me cross ice fields to reach places that only eagles, helicopters and hikers are able to reach.
There are many mountains in this world that are beautiful and exciting but none are quite like the 200 million year old limestone formation of the northern Alps im Austria. The untamed beauty of the Dachstein is truly magnificent and one of a kind.

When you join me on this adventure, you will be challenged by the terrain, fascinated by the beauty of nature, humbled by the dimension of this mountain from close by and above all, you will feel alive and you will be greatful to be capable of getting close to nature and heaven under your own esteem.

Unlike other conventional hikes or walks, I will take you to places that are a well kept secrets, known only to a very view and one day you may find on National Geographic’s.

You will mingle with the locals, participate in their daily life and learn about their culture. You will stay in remote rustic Alpine huts, in quaint country hotels, taste the native food and become part of this ambiance.
You will see herds of Chamois, (not quite goats and not quite antelope) that live about the tree line and are superbly adapted to the mountains, having particularly soft hooves which help them cling to the rocks on the mountains where they live.

You will observe Alpine Dohlen (Alpine Crough), a bird that is an excellent aviator, often gregarious, fearless and if you are lucky, may eat out of your hands.

You will be surounded by wild flowers like Enzian and Almrosen that flourish only in this Alpine pastures and hardy pine trees, Zirben that can become a thousand year of age, able to survive in this harsh environment.

You will cross glaciers, take cable cars to mountain tops, visit wild underground streams and ice caves. You will visit historic villages, visit small craft factories that have been in the same family for hundreds of years. You will go to old churches and cemeteries where generations of native families are buried.

But most important, you will have the opportunity to make new friends, come home as a new individual, recharged and with expanded perspectives. You will have the chance to learn a lot about yourself,
your capabilities and the true values that matter in life.
