Your trip begins in Salzburg, Austria at the Hauptbahnhof (Central Train Station in Salzburg) at ten A.M.. This is the chosen location because it is accessible by any means of transportation from most European and International destinations. The lonesome landscape still hides many secretes among them deep Dolinenschlunde. During the million of years the rainwater edged slowly, a labyrinth of tunnels in the limestone for the water to escape. We keep left and continue to a small mountain lake the Schneeberseelein. From there to the Gjadalm, by the Schilcher Haus to the Krippenstein where we spend the night. 616, 660 - 6 hour

Ninth day:
After breakfast we are going to hike threw beautiful alpine bowls towards the Wildgössl, by the Wies Pond to the Albert Appelhaus. After lunch we will hike threw beautiful Alpine pastures to a small Alpine village, the Wildensee Alm and then return to the Appelhaus where we spend the night.

Tenth day:
Very early in the morning, we descent towards the Grundlsee. Depending of our start, we may hike a short but steep trail to the Backenstein overlooking the Grundlsee, worth the effort because of the beautiful view. From there we are taking a bus ride back to Bad Aussee train station and from there the train back to Salzburg.

You will be hiking on save mountain trails around the Dachstein without concrete or asphalt ranging in altitude from 2400 feet to 9000 feet.

In ten hiking days, in diverse settings from the valleys to the glaciers, without mountain climbing equipment on natural trails.

Each leg of the journey has its own theme of history and windows into the past to make this a rewarding experience. You will spend the night in rustic mountain huts and local country inns. The tour does not require technical expertise but demand perseverance and condition on your part.

The typical duration of the hike will be moderate to steep, in parts lonely, but very beautiful, which leads through forest until 6200 feet and alpine meadows above.

Single Travelers:
In the field, we’ll be sleeping mostly in quaint mountain lodges along the loop we plan to hike. As such, private rooms are not always available on. There are no additional single fees assessed for single travelers.

Note on Itinerary:
Although we do our very best to adhere to the schedules listed above, these itineraries are subject to change for numerous reasons beyond our control including weather and terrain conditions. This can include changes in the huts to be used, trails to be hiked, etc.

Qualifications:
This trip is rated as Moderate Plus [3-4] and consists of a combination of moderate and more vigorous hiking days. We’ll spend 4-7 hours hiking on most days with elevation gains of up to 3,000’. As we are in the Alps, some trails can be steep and rocky and switchbacks are not always utilized to temper the grade of the route. Most of the planned hikes offer the option of stopping at a midway point, allowing trip members to rest and providing additional time to enjoy the spectacular alpine scenery before. To maximize your enjoyment of this trip and to avoid sore muscles, it is vital that you begin a conditioning regimen at least 2 months prior to departure. In addition to walking, swimming and cycling, some of the best training for this adventure includes hiking up and down hills with a 10-15 pound daypack on your back.

Weather:
As our trip takes place in an alpine climate, weather patterns can be extremely unpredictable and change rapidly. Although our departures take place during mid-summer when sunshine may be abundant, there is always a chance of rain showers making adequate raingear a necessity for this adventure. Daytime temperatures range between 50°-70°F in the mountains and can be as warm as 80 °-90° in the valleys below.

I strongly recommend the purchase trip cancellation and travel insurance. This comprehensive travel protection provides for: trip cancellation and interruption, travel delay, loss of baggage and travel documents, baggage delay, medical expenses and emergency assistance.
