The Salzkammergut History - Culture - Adventure The
Salzkammergut is the most impressive and culturally interesting
regions in the heart of Austria.
It is set
between the Alps and the Alpine foothills and covers the provinces
of Upper Austria, Salzburg and Styria.
A
total of 76 lakes, numerous
rivers and striking limestone mountains, including the Dachstein, the
Tote Gebirge
the Höllengebirge, make up an impressive and incomparable
setting.
Crystal clear lakes, beautiful Alpine pastures and wildflower fields
surrounded by dark forests, wild and untamed
lime stone peaks complete
this magical mountain world. The charming landscape of the Salzkammergut has inspired many rulers,
scholars and artists. It was the official summer residence of the Habsburg
Dynasty for 800 hundred years.
Gustav Klimt, Gustav Mahler, Hugo von Hoffmansthal or Christian Ludwig
Attersee created some of their
most important works in this popular
area.
If you are an experienced hiker, capable of hiking five to seven hours per day, carrying your twenty-five pound backpack, the Dachstein - Salzkammergut Tour is for you. If you would like to learn how to plan and execute hiking tours in
the Alpine environment
